Android SBS is coming back for 2026
The 2017 cult app that put your whole phone in VR is being rebuilt from scratch. Here's the plan — and how to get in first.
Eight years ago, a small app did something that still has no good replacement: it put your entire Android into VR. Any app, side by side, in a cheap phone-in-viewer headset. It sold for two years, and people have asked for it back every single month since.
So it’s coming back — rebuilt from scratch for modern Android.
Why now
Standalone headsets took over “serious” VR, but they never served this niche: a phone you already own plus a $20 viewer. A $1,800 device is not a substitute for a $20 one.
The 2026 build is a new implementation, ground up — the old one is long outdated. But the idea holds up, and the homework says it can be done.

Here’s the 2017 app doing its thing. This is a real demo, not a concept:
What you get by signing up
- First access to test builds.
- A say in which phones get supported first — tell us your device.
- One email when there’s something real to put in your hands. No spam.
The honest constraints stay the same: it needs a rooted phone, it’s for cheap headsets, and it’ll be a paid app. If that’s you, you’re exactly who this is for.
